Seeing the Meaning of Advent : Christ’s birth as our focus

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! How does that happen so fast? We’re just getting through the Thanksgiving holiday, and it feels like time rushes on. As we begin to think about the meaning of Advent, Christmas continues to get closer. What are the ways that you prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth as we focus on the meaning of Advent?

Are you looking for ways to include preparation for the advent season during the winter months in order to focus on the meaning of Advent with your family and students? If you are, this packet includes devotionals, discussion questions and ways to create an Advent Activities calendar as part of your celebration of Christ’s birth.  Each Daily Advent Card has a verse and discussion questions about the verse. You’ll have opportunities to read the verse and discuss the events that led up to Christ’s birth. Since there are many flexible ways to use these cards, use them at school or with your family. Read one each day and discuss the verse using the questions. Or have students choose one to study and present to the class or to your family. Use these cards as daily devotions.

There are also Fun Advent cards that give you some ideas about how to think about others during this season. The card might tell you to make cookies for a neighbor or write a card to someone who needs some encouragement. These cards could be put in an advent calendar or in a basket on the table. This packets includes so many ways to focus on what God has done for us. Whether you use it every day or just a couple of times throughout the season, it could help focus on why we celebrate this season.

I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s easy to get excited about this season and then very quickly get overwhelmed at all the expectations and all the things that have to be done!
