Think about such things!

Philippians 4: 8-9 says “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What have you learned and received and heard and seen in me- practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” (ESV)

What a great way to start the advent season! It’s so easy to think about the traditions- the candies that my aunt used to always have for us (notice those in the picture?), the trip to a tree farm to cut down the REAL tree, the decorations, the gingerbread cookies, the parties, the crafts, the shopping for presents, the Christmas programs, etc.

But can we stop (like we did at Thanksgiving?) to think about these things mentioned in the verse?

What things in our lives are

  • true
  • honorable
  • just
  • pure
  • lovely
  • commendable
  • excellent
  • worthy of praise

Let’s practice these things. We tend to talk about peace at Christmastime. We look for it in the twinkling lights and the family time together and the traditions, but what if we did what the verse says? What if we found peace as we practiced stopping to think about the things that are worthy of praise?

If you need some ideas to stop and think about these things, try out this resource that is on sale for the next few days as we lead into the Advent season.
